Ola High School and The Jason Holland 5K

The Jason Holland 5K was originally created in memory of Jason Holland, an Ola High School student. Jason was a 15-year-old student and member of the Ola High School football team. He was a hardworking student with a bright future ahead of him. One day, Jason went to school as usual and even attended football practice. After returning home, however, he went into cardiac arrest and sadly passed away. Since then, Ola High School has held the Jason Holland 5K each year in his memory. The event also serves an important purpose within the community. Each year, the high school sponsors a terminally ill student by organizing a community 5K to raise money and provide support for that student and their family. Members of the community are invited to participate in the race and help raise funds for the student being sponsored that year. HOSA plays an important role in making the event successful by volunteering wherever help is needed. This often includes assisting with setup, directing runners along the race route, providing refreshments to participants after they finish, and helping with cleanup. Volunteering at the Jason Holland 5K gives HOSA members a meaningful opportunity to serve their community while supporting students and families who are going through difficult circumstances. The event is a great example of how HOSA members can use their time and service to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
