How to Start a Local HOSA Chapter

Starting a local HOSA chapter is simple, rewarding, and a fantastic way to empower future healthcare professionals! Following the five steps below will ensure a successful start to your new chapter.

  • The first step in starting a local HOSA chapter is to secure an adult who will serve as the Chapter Advisor.

    • Advisor Resources: Detailed information on Advisor responsibilities can be found in Section C of the HOSA Handbook: Guide to Organizing and Managing a HOSA Chapter.

    • The Starting Five: Once a Chapter Advisor is secured, you will need to recruit at least 5 student members to get started. Once you have these names, you are ready to move on to the next step!

  • We want to hear from you and celebrate your success in launching a new chapter! We also need your contact details to ensure you receive all official communications from our office.

    1. Submit the Form: Complete the "Chapter Request Form" located in the submenu of this page.

    2. Receive Your Credentials: Once we receive your form, we will send your charter number, password, and HOSA region assignment. This allows you to officially add your initial 6 members (1 advisor + 5 students), plus anyone else you've recruited along the way!

    3. Explore the Site: While waiting for your credentials, we highly recommend getting familiar with the Georgia HOSA website. We host an abundance of resources specifically for chapter advisors.

    4. Stay Connected: Don’t forget to sign up for the official Georgia HOSA mailing list!

  • Your chapter ID and password are the keys to the online affiliation system. This system is the central hub for your chapter's administrative tasks.

What can you do in the affiliation system?

    • Affiliate new members

    • View your account balance

    • Print your membership directory

    • Register for conferences

    • Add proctors for online testing, and much more!

Step-by-step instructions for adding members are available immediately upon logging in. For deeper details on the affiliation system or for extra help, feel free to contact us.

  • Now that you are on our contact list and set up in the system, you are ready to build your chapter! Remember: a student cannot experience the amazing benefits of HOSA until they take that first step to join.

    Make recruitment engaging by utilizing:

    • Promotional posters and videos from past HOSA events.

    • Visits from State Officers or Region Representatives.

    • Our printable General Membership Recruitment Poster. Note: You can use the blank space at the bottom to customize it with your chapter's meeting location, dues, and contact person!

  • With your recruitment underway, it’s time to fine-tune the details to ensure a successful, impactful year. Start thinking about:

    • Electing your local chapter officers.

    • Planning fundraisers and community service projects.

    • Exploring the exciting Competitive Events program.

    • Promoting upcoming HOSA conferences.
