Going Beyond The Scrubs With North Forsyth High School HOSA

North Forsyth HOSA has focused this year on getting more involved with our local community, making that our primary goal. At the start of the school year, we kicked off preparations by choosing a chapter theme: Beyond The Scrubs. The Beyond The Scrubs theme is meant to articulate how HOSA members can get involved with the organization outside of the classroom. Our theme has shaped the remaining events our school has organized this year. To kick off membership promotion, we participated in two recruitment events where we created custom flyers and elevator pitches to inform students and parents about what HOSA is. Both of these events proved to be very successful in gathering members. To follow up, we hosted our first chapter meeting. Our first meeting was in August, and it was an interest meeting to gauge member interest in the club. This meeting was held in a meet-and-greet fashion, meant to allow new members an opportunity to get closer to officers. Following this event, we planned our first official chapter meeting, meant to take place in September. Our first meeting was an introduction; however, we also introduced competitions to get members excited and thinking about competitions. This event was called our comp fair, allowing us to get a head start on introducing competitions to our members from an early point on. Following this event, we hosted a volunteer drive and opportunity where members could get involved within our community to fully connect with our chapter theme. We collected donations to donate to a local food bank. Following the donation drive, we hosted an in-person opportunity allowing members to attend the food bank and help aid members of our community. These events helped shape our chapter and the way our members perceive our community engagement, allowing us to feel strong about the remainder of our planning process for the school year.
