Georgia HOSA Foundation
About Us
The HOSA Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organized to support Georgia HOSA students financially who qualify to compete at the HOSA National Leadership Conference. At the HOSA Foundation, we believe HOSA Members deserve the opportunity to achieve their dreams. When students compete and win they are ready to move forward to the next level. The next level is the HOSA National Leadership Conference where they compete against students all over the world. Many of the HOSA Students work hard raising money to get to the National Leadership Conference and yet dont raise enough to go. The HOSA Foundations wants to offer scholarships to deserving students. We believe if we can offer a scholarship to students they can focus more on preparing for national competition and feel a sense of accomplishment at a higher level.
Why should you support the HOSA Foundation?
As HOSA Advisor your tax deductible investment will help the foundation present a unified team as we work with the external business community to support our programs. It is critical that we show support among the HOSA Advisors (the internal family) in order to solicit support from the community. It is more difficult to raise money from the community if our own HOSA Advisors do not support the foundation.
What else can you do as a HOSA Advisor to help support the Foundation?
Referrals of names of people in your local community of influence and/or affluence who you feel could support the foundation. We need you to be a local advocate for the Foundation by speaking to your advisory board and other community members.
How will the HOSA Foundation impact your local fundraising?
The HOSA Foundation will be focused on state wide fundraising and will respect your wishes to not contact people who are currently supporting your local program. The potential is greater at a statewide level where we pool the contributions together to support our efforts.
How will the HOSA Foundation raise money?
- We will accept individual and corporate contributions.
- The HOSA Foundation will sponsor a statewide golf tournament.
- The silent auction baskets at both the state and fall conference
- Other activities under consideration
- College career fair at the conferences
- A Black tie event with a silent auction
- And others as proposed by the Board of Directors
Support Has to Come from Everyone
The HOSA Foundation has to have support from the teachers as well as from the people at DOE. James Woodard, Director, Career, Technical and Agricultural Educator, gave the first $100 to the HOSA Foundation. We are grateful for his support. However, the support from DOE doesnt stop there. Scott Carey, Associate Director, Phyllis Johnson, Program Specialist, Health Occupations and Allen Seigler, III, Executive Director of HOSA all were supporters of the HOSA Foundation as well. The overwhelming response from teachers was fabulous. We had 25 teachers contribute and another 5 teachers who pledged and will be sending in the money for a total of 30 teachers. It isnt too late if you would like to contribute $50.00. Everyone who contributes $50 prior to June 30th will be considered Charter Members of the Georgia HOSA Foundation.
Denise Flook was our first community supporter of the HOSA Foundation as well. Thank you Mrs. Flook!
Several of the other student organizations (FBLA, DECA, FCCLA) have also started their own Foundations and thus far HOSA has raised the most money from their teachers. Your support is critical to the success of the HOSA Foundation. Thank you to the following teachers who gave at the HOSA State Leadership Conference: Agnes Hollingshed, Charlotte Sims, Donna Sanders, Sheila McDaniel, Claire Coates, Jane Orendorff, Suzann Sauls, Anita Tinsley, Esther Baker, Patti Paradise Escoe, Chris Smith, Catherine NeSmith, Janice Tallant, Curlena Pippins, Kay Gray, Mark Elsey, Delores Ragland Smith, Sandra Ukah, Sharon Pye, Vickie Kirkey, Kay Roberts, Lillian Jenkins, and Julie Kenny. The following teachers made a pledge: Deon Tucker, Paulette Diener, Lance McNamara, Lori Wallin and Jama Kirkland.
Remember if you want to make a contribution let me know and I will send you the information and add you as one of our charter members.
HOSA Foundation Kicks-off at the State Leadership Conference
The silent auction was a big success. Thank you to all who brought the baskets and those who bid on the baskets. It was much fun watching people try to out bid one another. The silent auction made $265.00.
The winners of the giveaways are as follows:
- Godiva Basket - Jama Kirkland
- 2 Lake Lanier Island passes - Janice Tallant
- 2 Lake Lanier Island passes - Delores Ragland Smith
The grand total contribution was $2040. We still have a long way to go however this is a great start. Remember to speak to your advisory board about the HOSA Foundation. I can come to your advisory board meeting and speak on behalf of the Foundation as well.
If you know potential contributors please email me names and phone numbers. Remember we have to do this together and the support from the teacher goes a long way!
