Frequently Asked Questions
We have taken some of the most often asked questions and compiled them in FAQ format. If you have a question that is not answered on this page but you feel it would benefit other advisors, please contact us.
Why are my HOSA members not showing up in the conference registration system?
The reason they are not appearing in the conference system is because they are probably still in the holding queue of the affiliation side of the system. If you go back to the membership affiliation screen and go through the steps as if you were going to add more members, you should see the list of students in the queue on the left side of the screen. You will need to click "Next" at the bottom right of the screen and continue through the steps until you complete the process and click "Done."
How can I get the state officers to train my local chapter officers?
Attend JumpStart! If you have missed the registration deadline for JumpStart, the next best thing to do is to complete a visit request form on the State Officer/Region Representative page and request a visit. Regardless of their attendance, we would strongly recommend you download the HOSA Handbook, specifically Section C. This can be accessed via the Advisor Resources page.
Section C of the handbook is the guide to organizing and managing a HOSA chapter. Have your chapter officers read this manual and come together after individually reading through it and discussion how they can incorporate it into your local chapter.
Can my students still compete at the State Leadership Conference even though they didn't compete at the region level?
Yes. There are over 25 events which do not require students to compete in at the region level.
How can I get a copy of my registration invoice for conferences?
You must print a copy of this before registration closes. While you are logged into the registration system, you'll see a link that says "Invoice/Registration Summary". Click that link to pull up your pdf version of your chapter invoice. Verify the information is correct on this invoice as this is the final information that will be sent to HOSA headquarters for the conference.
Can I add students after the registration deadline?
No. The registration deadline is set so that we can begin gathering data and placing orders for items necessary to make the conference a success. It is important to check over your registration before the registration deadline.
What if a student who was on a team that placed at region cannot compete at state?
You are allowed to replace up to 50% of your team that won at region. If, for example, you had 4 members on the HOSA Bowl team and 2 of them cannot come, you can replace them with other students who did not compete at region. If you had a team of 3, you could only replace 1 of the members. If, on your team of 3, two of them couldn't come, the 1 student remaining would have to pick an event that was a state only event.
Why are medals not used as recognition for the Outstanding HOSA Chapter event?
OHC is intended to be chapter recognition for what the chapter accomplishes. A plaque is more appropriate than a medal, because a medal is an individual recognition and the plaque should be displayed in the classroom. Chapter advisors are more than welcome to call Awards Unlimited and order a medal for their students, if desired.
At the NLC there were 78 Outstanding HOSA Chapters registered and 63 earned recognition.
Thousands of competitors spend just as many hours and money for their events, and they dont get anything if they arent in the top 10. The odds of recognition in OHC are pretty high, and the plaque is really nice.
It has been suggested to make OHC an individual competitive event. If we did that, we would recognize 3 chapters with medals as opposed to 63 with plaques.
Can a student transfer his/her HOSA membership to another school?
The simple answer is yes, membership does transfer. The detailed answer is that only the state and national portion of dues transfers as long as they transfer within Georgia. For example, if you charge $20 for chapter membership ($5 local dues) and the members' new chapter charges $25 then they may have to pay that local portion again since it doesn't transfer. Even if the other chapter charges the $20 like you do, the other chapter may require them to pay $5 since that is what doesn't transfer out of the $20 that was paid to your chapter.
To make a membership transfer, contact Georgia HOSA Headquarters.
Will the Statesman Award test be given at any other HOSA event?
The Statesman Award test is a competitive exclusive to the Fall Leadership Rally at the Georgia National Fairgrounds. Although one does not have to be a member to attend the Rally, you must be a member to take the Statesman Award test.
